in simple elegance,	3

while light from a window	4
trips across vermillion petals	5
and olive leaves,	6

a gift from the heart	7
to brighten a somber day	8
they work with healing magic.	9

When the weather clears	10
and the dark soil warms	11
she will find a place for them outside,	12

in the world of growing things,	13
to flourish in summer sun	14
and sleep through winter winds—	15

to come full circle in the tenderness of Spring,	16
rising again,	17
in all their splendor,	18

a living testament of love	19
from sister	20
